What is so amazing to me is not how eloquent the video is (it absolutely is), but how a few short years ago, it was impossible to tell this entire story at all. When I was in San Francisco in 2001 or so, I had to pay a few thousand to learn rudimentary XML. Once I “got” the conceptual splits between structure, content, and formatting, I was a pretty valuable cat. Now, this guy weaves it into a story as a way of introducing how he did ethnography in Oceania. It’s a footnote. History is moving quickly.
That was great, Mike! I’ve put it in my favorites and emailed it to all of my friends. Or at least to one friend who will probably pass it on. 🙂
