I’m so pleased for all of you! Welcome back, David!
Wonderful!
Yes, wonderful!!
Hooray!
Huzzah! *waves to David, who can finally get caught up on reading Mike’s blog*
Congratulations! As someone who has spent the last fifteen+ years lobbying a parole board, I’m glad to see the system work (hope that’s accurate) to get your bro out and into a supportive family structure. Good luck!
There are times when words seem inadequate to convey the depth of happiness a situation brings–this is one of them. But words are all we have sometimes, so hooray and congratulations to all of you, and best wishes to your brother on the next phase of his life.
Such joyful news. Best wishes to the entire family.
looks like it was a wonderful celebration. Congratulations.
Congratulations! I can only imagine how good this must feel for everyone.
All the best. Of course I only know him through the bits and pieces you’ve revealed on your blog, but I know he’s got an awesome brother.
On April 1?
Thank you, all, for the kind words. David got himself an iBook Saturday morning (first purchases: clothes, laptop, bicycle, with next up being a cell phone), but hasn’t had access to the Web for 10 years — so he’s got a steep learning curve ahead. He’s got a Gmail account, so that’s a start.
But I gotta say: driving up and down the avenues with David riding shotgun, flipping back and forth between HFS and WHUR and DC101 and WPGC, going past the old neighborhoods — that was a big thing, a good thing, but a quiet thing.
He’s got a local family who’s given him a basement bedroom in which to stay, for which he’s grateful. He’s going to school in the fall, and tonight he’s out and on his own.
Like Dennis, I know of David only through Mike, but am glad to hear the good news as are others. Best of luck with all that lies ahead and I’m here to tell you that you can’t ride your book too often or too far; it just can’t be done.
Congrats to both of you. What a great day this is.
As my partner told me–“corrections never has a sense of irony” (releasing someone in time for an April Fools’ celebration, that is). I’m glad that you have your brother back. Welcome home.
This is wonderful news.
Welcome home David. I have not seen you in some time, but am so happy to hear you are home. I wish you nothing but the best of luck.
Rob
I’m so happy for all of you!
Awesome, Mike!
Mike, I am so happy for you. Here’s to lots of brotherly time spent together.
This is he, the center of all this hoopla, and it impresses me the amount of congrats and good spirit for Michael and I (oh crap English majors are going to tattoo this comment). I will try to do everyone proud and do my best to repay my debt to society. For a while I thought that line was a joke and I don’t know if DOC brainwashed me, but I really want to do right by society… Get a job, do service work, be a part of the process (getting voting rights back would seriously kick ass), and get the word out so others don’t have to follow my path.
Today I have an interview with the Takoma Park City Government (rec dept.) and Red Rock Canyon Cafe so hopefully the process will continue its move forward. Cool website Michael, I’m glad to get more than a second hand account of it. Now it doesn’t matter I can’t send email, I’ll just send comments!
Oh yeah and can someone please photoshop some eyebrows on Michael and our Dad!
